Scenario A: You use more than one web browser and more than one computer when managing web projects, either for a client or for your own website. You bookmark a URL on a browser in one computer, and while working on another computer, you found the need for that bookmark.
Do you:
- Visit the URL (if you remember it in the first place) and bookmark it again?
- or work on the other computer since you had it bookmarked there?
But what if you're in the office, and the bookmark is in a computer at home?

Scenario B: You work only on one computer but you use more than one browser (like me, I use Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari), so you bookmark a URL on Chrome and realize you need to bookmark it on all other browsers too. Most likely you won't put them on the same folders, unless you remember what folder names you used on the other browsersl. If you keep on doing this overtime, you will have a "bookmarks overload". It's like having sticky notes not only on your desk or fridge, but all over your house.
Web-based book
marking services save the day
If you find yourself in a "sticky" situation of having different/duplicate bookmarks on each browser, then a web-based bookmarking service is what you'll need to keep your sanity.
One bookmarking service we would recommend is Google Bookmarks. If you use Gmail or if you have a Google account, Google Bookmarks is available at https://www.google.com/bookmarks/l. I find this very convenient since I use Gmail for work so I can just switch to Google Bookmarks in one click. I also use Firefox and there is a Firefox extension called Gmarks (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2888) that includes a sidebar, a toolbar, a quick search.
All Google bookmarks are private by default. You can find out more about Google Bookmarks in this FAQ: (http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2007/03/google-bookmarks-faq.html).
If you have Yahoo account, then you can use another bookmarking service, the popular Delicious [ http://delicious.com ] social bookmarking site. Delicious not only allows you to bookmark your links but also share these bookmarks with the public. Make sure though that you "Make private" a link that you don't want to share, because unlike Google Bookmarks, Delicious bookmarks are not private by default. Delicious provides bookmarking tools for different browsers in their Tools Page: http://delicious.com/help/tools
